Is it better
a parquet with large or small planks to pave our home? In addition to the type of wood, the color, the finishes and the laying geometries, the size of the parquet also has a decisive influence on the aesthetics of the environment.
Although the size of the planks is sometimes a little discussed issue, it is still a choice to be carefully evaluated in order not to jeopardize the desired final result.
When to choose a large-planks parquet
The large-plank parquet is the typical solution, much appreciated in
very large spaces. The large planks in fact enhance the natural appearance of wood, expressed in the continuity of the grain, knots and shades of color of the essence. In large planks the beauty of the wood is amplified and more easily perceptible.
Suggestive and refined, a parquet with large planks makes even the largest and most dispersive environments more welcoming and intimate, as it has the property of
making the spaces more optically collected.
Nowadays large planks are a
trendy choice, as are
light colors or smoky effect. If, on the other hand, classic colors are preferred, the
color of natural oak is always timeless.
The large formats go well with the bevel
Beveling consists in machining the perimeter of the plank, in order to create a
small bevel on the edges. This process is generally proposed on large-format parquet or with particular geometries. Once installed, the individual beveled planks thus stand out from each other, standing out in the environment.
On the other hand, planks worked with sharp edges fit together seamlessly, giving an optical effect of greater homogeneity to the floor.
The ideal places to place a parquet with large planks
For a parquet to give its best, it is important to evaluate the characteristics of the environment in which it is installed. As we have seen, the natural destination of a parquet with large planks are the largest surfaces.
Open spaces, villas, lofts of good size, hotel lobbies, museum rooms, luxury shops, rooms dedicated to welcoming the public in general are the places where we will most easily find a parquet made up of large planks.
Obviously no one forbids us to lay them even in smaller contexts, but the final aesthetic effect would be penalized.
The cutting of the planks necessary for their installation would
interrupt the continuity of the veins and other aesthetic elements that would find greater breathing space if free to express themselves in more open environments.
When to choose a small-planks parquet
Large planks tend to make rooms seem smaller and, in general, do not seem suitable for smaller rooms.
Furthermore, it must be considered that if the visible parquet surface is not much (think for example of a room with a bed, wardrobes and carpets that cover most of the floor), opting for large boards does not offer aesthetic advantages. In addition, it would also be an inexpensive choice, as large planks are generally more expensive than small ones.
The small strips, on the other hand, are the ideal solution for
covering the floors of small rooms, guaranteeing good chromatic uniformity and allowing to obtain particular effects through laying patterns such as the “herringbone”.
